Thinking About Spring Maintenance? Here’s a Shortlist…
There may still be snow on the ground, but every day the sun is hanging out a just a touch longer and before we know it, we’ll be ankle deep in that familiar slush that comes along with our sweet Alberta spring. Birds, butterflies, greening grass and… you guess right – spring vehicle maintenance. If you’re like most of us and have been taking on the winter roads daily for the past six months, your vehicle will love you for a little bit of TLC after the cold season. Keeping track of everything to take care of can be daunting, but don’t worry about we’ve put together a short list of things you may want to consider checking in on, or easier yet, having checked by a certified technician, say here at our Straightline Dodge Service Department, for example!
Check Your Tires
Your tire’s air pressure will be changing along with the temperatures, so you’ll need to stay on top of their air pressure as things warm up. This is a good time to check in on their overall health (don’t know how? click here to learn some basics). Once things start heading north of 7 degrees celcius, consider switching off your winters back into your all-season or summer tires. Get a Tire Quote Right Now
Check Your Wiper Blades
Wiper blades take a beating during the winter. All that ice can be a menace, so test out your wiper blades to make sure they are still clearing moisture from your view well and replace them if they aren’t getting the job done anymore.
Change Your Oil and Filter
Do you remember when the last time you changed your oil was? We hope so! But either way, the season change is a great excuse to catch back up with your oil change schedule if you’ve fallen at all behind. Warmer spring and summer weather can make use of lower viscosity lubricants, so take advantage of the spring tune up and get your oil cleaned up.
Change Your Air Filter
Dust and pollen are coming and your air filter is probably ready for a change after the cold season. Get a new filter and swap it out with your old one or come have one of our service experts do it for you.
Check Your Coollant Levels
Coolant levels are always vitally important, take this excuse to make sure your vehicle’s coolant level is sitting comfortably in between the minimum and maximum levels indicated on your coolants compartment.
Check Radiator Cap and Hoses
When your vehicle has been off for enough time for temperatures to be normalized, carefully unscrew your radiator cap and inspect the seal, make sure it is closing snug and no liquid is getting anywhere. Inspect the hoses coming off your radiator for signs of cracking or wear. Hoses showing deficiencies should be replaced as they put your vehicle at risk of overheating should one rupture during warmer weather.
Check Battery Plugs
Ensure your battery posts are clean of build-up and all connections are tight and snug. You can use a battery-cleaner spray or mix up some baking soda in water to neutralize the acidic buildup material.
Take the opportunity to clean up the interior of your cabin. Vacuum those seats and rugs and disinfect all your surfaces. Leather seating can be treated and refreshed to bring life back into your upholstery. With all the love you put into your vehicle, it will be sure to return it right back to you during the spring and summer months.
